KPRC is a KTEC Center of Excellence.  It was established in 1994 to carry out research in the polymer/plastics area and to complement the educational program offerings in the College of Technology.  The PSU Polymer Lab is primarily engaged in applied research.  The mission of the Polymer R&D Lab is to help clients solve development and production problems in the field of polymers and plastics.

The Polymer R&D Lab staff has expertise in synthesis, characterization and structure-property relationships, as well as in processing and testing polymeric materials.  Contract research is offered to the companies interested in developing new products.  The lab is specialized in synthesis, formulation and processing of polyurethanes, unsaturated polyesters and epoxies, preparation and structure-property relationships in elastomers and gels, polymer blends, liquid crystalline polymers and compounding of plastics.

The R&D Lab is equipped to test a range of properties including molecular characteristics (molecular weight measurements by GPC, viscometry, light scattering), thermal and thermomechanical properties (DSC, TGA, TMA, DMTA, Vicat, HDT), rheological properties (dynamic stress rheometer, Brookfield, HAAKE Rheocord, Instron Capilary Rheometer), mechanical (tensile, impact), electrical properties (dielectric analyzer, arc resistance) and plastic processing (injection molding, compression molding, extrusion, thermoforming, urethane foaming, two-roll mills).
