The Kansas Polymer Research Center at Pittsburg State University is equipped with basic research equipment, such as necessary glassware and laboratory equipment for polymer synthesis. A high-pressure stirred reactor (6,000 psig) was recently purchased specifically for oleochemistry. Equipment purchased recently includes a Perkin-Elmer FT-IR spectrometer, UIC Vapor Pressure Osmometer and Waters GPC for molecular weight determination, LaserComp Fox 200 Heat Flow Meter (for measuring foam thermal conductivity) and an optical microscope.
Thermal Analyst System from TA Instruments consisting of Controller 2100, Modulated DSC 291-\0, TMA 2940, TGA 2050 and Dielectric Analyzer DEA 2970, and Dynamic Mechanical Thermal Analyzer and Dynamic Stress Rheometer from Rheometrics, MTS Tensile Tester, Instron Tensile Tester with Capillary Rheometer, HAAKE Rheocord 40 system with a mixer Rheomix 600 and Measuring extruder Rheomex 252/254 with film blowing die, Taber Abrasor, Shore Hardness Testers, Rapid Prototyping Stratasys and Helisys System.
At our disposal are a Scanning electron microscope, Atomic force Microscope, and a Small Angle X-Ray Scattering machine (Department of Physics), 60 MHz NMR, Bruker 300 MHz solid state NMR, GC/MS and a number of smaller instruments at the Chemistry Department.
